DAY -9

The well-deserved sleep led me to wake up at 8 am, marking the beginning of day 9. From this point on, the weather transitioned from sunny conditions to rain and colder temperatures. There were heavy rain warnings for the next few days, which Sanjeev bro informed me about the previous night. He continued to provide regular updates from the local government and news in the morning regarding the weather conditions.

It's also time to switch to the new riding gloves provided by Powersports International for testing. These are the KORDA Winter waterproof gloves, part of a prototype that I've been given the opportunity to test under real-time conditions.

The Place where my bike was parked in front of sanjeev bro's house and also i got charged it

Got ready, packed my belongings, and loaded them onto my bike. Suited up and started from Solan at 9:25 am bidding farewell to Sanjeev bro and his family. Initially, I planned to go via Shimla, but Sanjeev bro advised against it due to expected tourist traffic. Instead, he suggested taking the state highway that would connect me to Manali via Mandi, which was a shorter route.

With the assistance of Google Maps, I navigated onto the state highway, although I encountered a few moments of confusion due to the hilly terrain. However, I managed to maintain the right direction. The state highway was incredibly scenic with minimal traffic. Travelling on unfamiliar roads offered distinct views. Thankfully, it wasn't raining, but the day was cloudy and the temperature considerably low. To combat the cold, I wore warm clothing under my riding suit.

After 3 hours ride crossing 65 km, At around 12:30 pm, I took a break to have a meal. I opted for Maggie and chai to satiate my hunger and took some time to relax. While there, I engaged in conversation with the shop owner, who showed a keen interest in my bike and was genuinely excited about it.

At approximately 2:30 pm, I passed the Sutlej river and paused to capture some photographs. The sight triggered memories of crossing the same place back in 2012 during a college trip with my students. Reflecting on the passing years, it was evident that significant development and changes had taken place along these routes in the span of 11 years.

Riding through the Himalayan ghat sections was an exhilarating experience. The journey offered a breathtaking view of nature's beauty with its diverse landscapes. Despite the chill in the air, the sunny weather added to the wonderful feeling. It marked my inaugural ride through the Himalayas, making the experience particularly exciting and memorable.

It was around 3 pm when I reached the Kanaid town area. There was a bit of traffic due to school students commuting back home using various modes of transportation. Meanwhile, the weather began to change rapidly with heavy winds picking up, signaling an imminent heavy rainfall. Dark clouds covered the entire area, and I hurriedly stopped my bike on the roadside, safely ensuring I was visible, and quickly put on my rain gear. However, as I finished gearing up, the rain had already started. Despite the rain, I cautiously continued my journey towards Mandi.

Around 4:05 pm, it took an additional 2.5 hours to cover a distance of 53 km. Despite facing challenging riding conditions, I finally arrived in Mandi. Upon arrival, I visited the Jalpa TVS showroom and approached Vikas, introducing myself and requesting assistance with charging. He promptly provided a plug and helped initiate the charging process. The weather was still rainy and the climate had turned freezing. I took some time to relax and engage in conversation with the showroom staff and the owner of Jalpa TVS.

Meanwhile, while at Jalpa TVS, Vikas immediately reached out to the owner of TVS Manali and informed him about my arrival. He also shared the contact details with me so that I could get in touch upon reaching Manali. With the charging situation sorted out for the next stop, I took some rest. However, around 5:30 pm, the employees started to close the showroom as it was their leaving time. I had until 6 pm as a buffer since my bike was still charging outside. Vikas and the others bid me farewell and left the showroom. The security personnel remained with me until I completed charging, and by 6 pm, I stopped charging and hoped the battery would be sufficient to reach Manali. I expressed my gratitude to the security personnel and departed from Mandi TVS, aiming to cover another 90 km to reach Manali.

After leaving Mandi, I continued my journey towards Manali, encountering a mix of good and rough patches along the highway due to ongoing construction. The route had numerous tunnels, showcasing the impressive work undertaken by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in the mountainous terrains. The drizzling rain made the visibility low, requiring me to proceed cautiously in the darkening weather.

By 9:15 pm, I arrived in Manali and located Kapoor TVS, but to my disappointment, the showroom was closed, and the area seemed deserted amidst the rain. Upon contacting Mr. Kapoor, he provided a new location for me to visit. I reached this new spot around 9:30 pm, where Mr. Kapoor took me to his friend's eatery, Hari Om Dhaba. Luckily, we found a working charging point there, and my bike started charging smoothly. Concerned about the heavy rain and the low temperature, Mr. Kapoor suggested I stay the night and depart in the morning. Given the weather conditions and being soaked from the rain, I decided to follow his advice and stay at the dhaba for the night.

I found myself at Hari Om Dhaba, a fantastic place with a cool ambiance offering delicious hot meals, neat accommodations, a convenient grocery store, and even winter clothing. The owner was incredibly friendly and made sure customers felt at home. After a brief chat with Mr. Kapoor and the dhaba owner, I ordered some mouth-watering momos. Kapoor Ji left for his house, and I headed up to my room to freshen up. Later, I returned to the dhaba to enjoy a delightful dinner of momos and a steaming cup of chai, concluding my eventful journey on Day 9 amid the rainy and chilly weather.
